A 43 year old company director has been elected the first woman to chair the Federation of Maori Authorities (FOMA). 

 

Traci Houpapa, Waikato Maniapoto,Taranaki, is the first woman and youngest to lead the Federation since it was established in 1987.

 

Houpapa is a co-owner of THS & Associates Ltd, a Hamilton based firm which specialises in strategic and business planning. She is the Tainui delegate and has served on the Executive for just 12 months.

  

Houpapa was elected in December and replaces Temuera Hall. Te Upoko o te Ika executive member Richard Orzecki steps into the deputy chair. 

 

Traci is committed to encouraging Maori participation in economic development. She co-owns THS & Associates Ltd, a Hamilton based consulting firm providing professional advice in strategic and business planning and organisational development to Iwi, Maori, public and private sector clients throughout New Zealand. 

 

Traci is a pragmatic individual who knows the difficulties of business start-up, the realities of the market, and the commitment required to achieve success.

Richard Orzecki 

 

Richard is a Company Director, and has been involved in health since 2006, including membership of Mid Central DHB HAC, Manawhenua Hauora (Mäori Relationship Board - Chairman) and a director on the Horowhenua Primary Health organisation. Richard is a director of Recoveries 2006 Limited based in Otaki and until recently Levin Meats Limited. His career started in information technology for some 30 years until moving back to NZ some 10 years ago. Hë is very active with his Iwi of Ngäti Raukawa ki te tonga and served as Chairman for three years. This is Richards second three year term as a Executive member of FoMA.

Paul Morgan

 

Involved in numerous Maori commercial interests that encompass the areas of horticulture, agriculture, forestry, fishing, leased lands, equities and commercial properties. Paul's expertise lies also in his extensive network of business and political contacts, as well as his track record of negotiation, development and repositioning of Maori business in the domestic and global markets. Paul is currently Chair of both Wakatu Incorporation and Tohu Wines (Ltd), and is based in Nelson.

Ingrid Collins

 

25 years involved in Maori Land Incorporation management, as well as the successful operation of a farm on the East Coast of New Zealand have helped Ingrid Collins gain experience and expertise in land management. Her involvement in the Kaiti Medical Centre Management team and Gisborne District Health Board also gives her experience and expertise in health management.

 

Ingrid Collins is presently Chair of Whangara B5 Incorporation and the Tairawhiti Federation of Maori Authorities, and is based in Gisborne.

Paul White

 

Paul is from the Ngai Tupoto hapu of Te Rarawa iwi and has had a 25-year background in Maori development and wide experience in the public service.  He has served on a variety of trust and incorporations and was a director on Tai Tokerau Forests Ltd.  He is currently a management and development consultant and professional director and lives in Rawene in the Hokianga.  Previously he was the Chief Executive of Ngai Tahu Development Corporation, a Regional Director for Te Puni Kokiri in Tai Tokerau, and Branch Manager for the Housing Corporation in Northland.  Paul is a qualified architect and has a Masters in Business Studies.  He is a board member on Housing NZ Ltd and has served on the Canterbury District Health Board.  Paul is also an elected Negotiator for Te Rarawa's Treaty claims and is heavily involved in iwi development.

Ko Materoa Dodd ahau tetahi o nga uri o Ngati Awa me Ngai Te Rangi. I was elected as the Mataatua representative on FOMA at the October 2009 Hui ā-tau.

 

My background is political, socio-cultural and economic development. I specialise in monitoring international development trends and their impact on nation-state economies and indigenous populations.

 

I work as a Senior Lecturer in Development Studies at Waikato University and conduct Nation Building research about post-settlement governance organisations.

 

I am a representative and executive member on Te Runanga o Ngāti Awa and a member of Council on Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi. I am the Chair of Ngāti Wharepaia hapū in Whakatāne.

Te Horipo Karaitiana (Kura Kura Kai Tahu, Waitaha, Rapuwai, Hawea, Ngati Kuhungunu,) is an experienced Director with a strong commercial background. Over the past 22 years he has taken on a wide range of senior management and governance roles for Māori, Community, Private and Government sectors.

 

He is currently a Director on Wairarapa Moana Incorporation regarded as one of the innovative and progressive Māori incorporations and Corporate Agribusiness in Aotearoa. He also is the Chair of the Awatoru Economic Transformation initiative focused on national economic development and export initiatives.

 

Te Horipo holds a Masters of Business Administration degree, a post-graduate Diploma in Corporate Management and is a member of the Institute of Directors and has completed both the Company Directors and Chairing the Board courses. In addition to significant training in the last 24 years in leadership, strategic and business planning, employment law and process, marketing & branding he was selected for the prestigious Food and Agribusiness Market Experience international programme.

 

His interest is in Maori and First Nations development with a particular focus on the governance and leadership of inter-generational organisational constructs to achieve cultural, social and economic transformation of the collective interest and assets of Maori and has presented at conferences and seminars on these topics both in Aotearoa and overseas.

 

Te Horipo believes that Maori are part of the global economy and have a key contribution to make in the transformation and wellbeing of Aotearoa though the sectors that Maori hold a strategic position, in particular within the Primary Industries.
