After completing a consultation round and seeking submissions, to which a summary was issued in September 2001, the Review has entered the development of policy options phase. A Maori Group has been convened to advise policy makers. Bill Karaitana and John Mitchell are members of that panel.

It is envisioned that policy papers will be presented very soon to the responsible Ministers, and a Bill will be drafted soon after for presentation to Parliament. The next opportunity to make a contribution will be at Select Committee level.

Action: - Keep an eye on developments - Advocate our views now to the Maori MPs, and any other responsible Ministers. - Make submissions to Select Committee
