The NZ Climate Change Office are hosting a National Hui on Climate Change on Wednesday 7 July 2004, 10am-3pm, in the Nau Mai Room, TPK House, 143 Lambton Qy, Wellington.

 

The Hui will be an opportunity for key Maori interest groups and organisations to hear the latest updates on climate change policy and contribute to a discussion on climate change issues with Govt officials. The Hon Pete Hodgson will also address the hui.

 

Development from the 2002 Rotorua Hui will be discussed. These include:

  • the completion of an MOU between the Government and the agricultural sector for research into reducing agricultural greenhouse gas emissions;
  • the negotiation of a Forestry Industry Framework Agreement that contains policies & programmes realting to transport, bio-energy, labour, skills, & market access;
  • agreement to implement a new policy for permanent forest sinks (with limited harvesting rights)
  • the implementation of Projects to Reduce Emissions programme, which awards emissions units to projects that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions beyond 'business as usual';
  • the development of policy for Small to Medium Enterprises and business opportunities.
