News on the climate change front...

Following the Climate Change Office update in July 04, FoMA have representatives working in conjunction with the Office in relation to putting forward Maori views on the policy and its impact.

• Russia to ratify Kyoto Protocol

President Vladimir Putin issued instructions in Sept 04 clearing the way for Russia to ratify, the Kyoto Protocol. This would ensure the document the critical mass needed to come into force internationally for previous signatories such as New Zealand.

The ramifications are being felt already internationally with enterprise interests in non-signatory countries, such as the USA, even beginning to assess the future impact conducting business in a carbon-compliant environment will have.
