|
The Aquaculture Reform Bill is currently before the Primary Production Committee for consideration. Submissions are being accepted, and the closing date is Mon 27 September 2004
The purpose of the Bill is to enable the sustainable growth of aquaculture and ensure the cumulative environmental effects are properly managed while not undermining the fisheries regime or Treaty of Waitangi settlement.
Due to a desire to push the Aquaculture Reform Bill through Parliament before the aquaculture moratorium expires in December 04, Government have not engaged extensively with iwi prior to the introduction of the Bill to Parliament.
