structure & communication
As an incorporated society, FoMA is governed by the (New Zealand) Incorporated Societies Act 1903. Originally established with 10 rohe or electoral districts, these are based loosely on traditional waka and iwi groupings.
Tuwharetoa members were successful in 2001 in their application for separate representation. Thus the Federation comprises of 11 regions, each with their interests represented on the National Executive.

However, this website is designed to facilitate and increase communication and discussion across the network. Members around the country will now be able to communicate with each other directly with greater ease.
- The Member Showcase profiles the activities of each entity and gives an opportunity to all members to showcase their organisation.
- The Discussion Forum operates as a virtual marae for the wider community, another avenue to pose questions, discuss issues, and panui they are designed for the benefit of Maori in general.
The FoMA AGM & Conference is another important event on the FoMA calendar, where members can meet kanohi ki te kanohi to discuss current issues, workshop, make decisions and strategise.
